Students with additional needs can complete the 3-10 Challenge. This judgement can be made at the school level.
PRC coordinators are now able to adjust a student's challenge level within the PRC website. Please follow the detailed steps below.
The 3-10 Challenge level allows students with special needs to complete the Challenge by reading 20 books from any Challenge level (including K-2).
Students who are set with the 3-10 Challenge Level are able to:
- Read books on any booklist (K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-9) as PRC titles
- Read titles independently, share-read or be read to
- Read PRC and personal choice books in English or their home language
- listen to an unabridged audio version of PRC and personal choice books while reading along with the book.
Students can receive the same support to access PRC books as they receive to access Stage-level books at school. This includes Braille, enlarged print, audio books (all unabridged), partner reading and assistance from teachers' aides.
Teachers and parents are encouraged to find strategies to support students with learning difficulties to read books that are appropriate to their maturity level and interests from their correct Challenge level.
